Yesterday I had opened Word Perfect and my e-mail to consolidate the information I had been sending a friend of mine into a letter I was starting to write to the ACLU. Since during the "business" day, they monitor our monitors, they got a screen shot and at the end of one the messages in my thread, there were the words, "These bitches don't get it." So of course at 4:08 PM, my laundry-time is interupted by the R.A. who told me that the Center Director needs to have a meeting with me.

Why yes, the center director, deputy center director, and the CSIO (Center Safety and Incentive Officer) officer that is leaving for a different center, but is the dullard of the two have driven me frustrated enough to bang my head on the desk three times in front of them.

The director starts as awkard as, "What about these bees?" instead of, we have gotten a screen shot of your screen today and are concerned about what we saw.

Center Director has a dictionary in front of her and claims that lord means one who has power. I tell them it means god. I even point-out the definition that says God.

CSIO asks me, "what does the word lord mean in the dictionary of this country?" I told him God. He said no, it means one with power. Before the end of the meeting I asked who was the one with power they were referring to and his response was a higher authority. I told him, "Not everyone believes in a higher authority."

Deputy Director thought we had settled this with our previous discussion. I told her I gave-up on communicating with her.

They at least promise they won't use the words lord and amen again, but did not get what else I wanted from them and claimed that they understand me and want to protect my rights. I've told them, "I don't trust you," and they do not understand why I would want an outside mediator for our conversations.

Deputy Director had to ask me what is ACLU and then asked me if I was going to send the letter. I don't know.

The head banging part got me asked if there's anything else going-on and would my educational counselor have anything to say if they called her? What? You mean my dysfunctional family?

I vented to the educational counselor about ignorance and how I hate it. She says that if they don't get it after two meetings, they probably won't get it. She also thinks accepting at least the part of them not going to say amen and lord in the future and this is a rather temporary part of my life. Except of course I've still been feeling the flares of anger through the night and this day. Then there's the part where these people are still here and will be here on future generations of students. What if the next students doesn't have as strong of a backbone?

Hon, I have a few questions for you:

  1. Do they make you run their screen-scraping software on your laptop? If not, why are you using their computers with what can be considered unacceptable content?
  2. Do you actually think these directors do not know what the words "lord" or "ACLU" mean? Do you not think they may have been getting you to entrap yourself by explaining your terms?
  3. Do you really think you're going to protect the next set of students from bureaucrats? Does it matter?
  4. Have you noticed you're as old as some of the employees there?

Please understand that they're probably ready to drum you out. You're giving them reasons. You're having a rebellion as if you were a teenager, but you're old enough to go to a real job.

It's time, right now, for you to apply to college. If you're going to rebel, stop doing it alone. Applications need to be in fairly soon. Do it.

Been keeping track of this quietly and just thought I would chip in and say I'm proud of you for standing up to them. If I was in the same situation, the use of the words "Lord", etc in what is meant to be a secular environment would piss me right off. I'm getting the feeling though that they're not getting it, and as pseydtonne says above, it doesn't sound like you're going to be able to affect any lasting change that will save subsequent years of students from this rubbish.

But again, well done you for standing up against it.

What the fucking kind of place is this?!!! I've long thought it sounded damn creepy, to say the least! Sounds less and less like an educational facility every time you post about it. Fuck their mind-control shit, just do whatever you need to do for your well-being.

Even though I've only been watching from the sidelines, this pretty much sums up my thoughts on the topic.

Bureacracy and seemingly willful ignorance winds me up into a vitriolic burning rage.
