So the higher-up ended-up not coming on Tuesday and word had it that he was in Needham by then so we never got to see him.

Would have been "lovely" if he had come-in the next morning at opening.  Here's why.

First I get told that the guy who was supposed to be in at 6 called-in sick.  Later my former Rhode Islander co-worker is the one to answer the phone.  After he gets-off, he tells me the woman who was supposed to be in at 6 is in the hospital to comfort a family member in an emergency.(1)  I now become the last worker to close the deli at 10 instead of the normal 11 o'clock at night.

So the new guy leaves at 7, the ex-Rhode Islander leaves at 8, and the prepared foods guy comes over after 8 and helps me till 9 before I'm left alone.  I at least get the cheese slicer almost fully cleaned, but had to leave a dirty meat slicer in the cooler, the floor not even swept let alone washed, the chrome not cleaned, and had to put trash bags over the salads without taking the spoons out.

The next night I come-in and ask the ex-Rhode Islander if he knew how everything went in the morning and he said fine since it was our department manager's day-off.

(1)I asked him if he passed the call-on to whoever's the store manager that night and he tells me no since previously he's only been told to pass sick calls on to the department manager or the guy who does our cheese island.  Told him to pass it on to the store manager in the future.  Why I know this, I made the same mistake several months when a co-worker called-in sick and got told by my department manager to pass it on to the store manager in the future.  It's unfortunately somewhat normal for procedure information to be passed-on as scattershot as this in this store.
