End of 2010 Graphic Novel Reading
Jan. 4th, 2011 08:54 pmI've finally read Persepolis I by Marjane Strapi, then watched it in French, and then read Persepolis II. The movie does a fairly concise job of editing the story into a 90-minute film. Except when Ms. Strapi goes from depressed to an aerobics instructor, dancing to Eye of the Tiger, the film isn't clear about where the sudden attitude change originated. In the book, you see the failed suicide attempt with enough sleeping pills that she should have died and her conclusion that she wasn't meant to die so easily.
When I picked-up Persepolis I at the library, I saw a graphic novel called Life Sucks. I wondered if it would be a book about a 20-something in a dead-end job. That was correct, I just didn't expect it to be a 20-something guy who was turned into a convenience store clerk and vampire in L.A. When found-out to be a vampire by Goth chick he loves, he tries to dissuade her from the desire to be a vampire.
